Art Market

Over the weekend we ran a successful stall as part of the Fringe Artists' Market (despite the downpour on Saturday morning!) - thank you and well done to everyone involved in setting it up, storing pictures, running the stall and, of course, everyone who put their work on display!

Spotlight - Directing the Viewer's Eye

This month, Spotlight's having a look at an article by storyboard artist Mark Kennedy on the Temple of the Seven Golden Camels blog. How do you direct the viewer's eye in a picture? The article deals specifically with storyboards, but the ideas are applicable (perhaps with some slight variation) to many forms of art.

Digital Painting Demo

As part of the Fringe Festival, at 7.30pm on Wednesday 25th June I'll be at The Sitting Room (3 Upper Galdeford [above Thai Box], Ludlow) to do some live digital painting for the evening, working up a sketch, showing my process and answering any questions about how I work - it'd be great to see you there, and it's £5 on the door.

You can find my work at www.midnightillustrationportfolio.blogspot.com.

Pictures from the Paint Jam

Did you get along to see the Jam? I hope so, 'cause it was a real spectacle! For 6 hours last Sunday, Castle Square was a hive of artistic activity as 9 artists worked on their boards, another artist was wandering around the area painting with oils, and the public board proved so popular we had to turn it around so the back could be completely covered, too!

Here are some pictures from the day (all photos © Jacob Cadet):

Chris Bean chatting with Deeds
Dave Simpson adding outlines
Lesley Connolly painting her board
Matt Beahan considers his materials, while a kid works on the public board
Melo spraying his design
I'm removing a stencil, while Mike Flight works in the background
7 of the boards are now in the Brewery, the remaining 3 in the Mascall Centre, and the oils will most likely go in the shop at 16 Tower Street.

All the artwork will be up for auction in a separate event on 6th July, at 2pm in Castle Square!

Pictures from Carol Davies' Talk

Carol talked about her time at Warner Brothers and showed us some of the work she did there, then explained how she got into illustration. She brought along a selection of her originals, and some of the books she's illustrated. She then took to the whiteboard and showed us how she draws her characters, and we all had a chance to have a go!

Some pictures from the evening:

Next month, on Thursday 3rd July, we have Wilf Langford, chairman of the Shropshire Art Society, giving us talk and demonstration on his pastel work.

Before then, though, there's the Paint Jam (15th, Castle Square), the LAS' section of the Art Trail (in the Wine Bar), and our Art Market (28th & 29th)!

New logo!

We held a competition to find a new logo, something that had maybe had a splash of colour and looked a little brighter than our old one while still being a strong design. The competition is now over, and we have a winner!

Here is the new logo, designed by Tom Crowe:

 Well done Tom!
