Spotlight - Duotone Illustrations

This month, Spotlight's taking a look at duotone illustrations, courtesy of the Muddy Colors blog. From the post: "Duotone is a printing process by which an image is created using just two colors. Traditionally, it is created by applying a single color halftone (usually blue, red or yellow) over a black halftone. Whites are achieved through the use of the paper's surface. The printing process is very simple, and extremely cost effective, making it a popular choice for projects where budget is a major concern, like newspapers and classic pulp magazines."

Angela Gladwell's Painting and Drawing Course - Fabulous Creatures in Fabulous Places

From the Ludlow Museum Resource Centre's Spring 2014 Adult Education brochure:

FABULOUS CREATURES IN FABULOUS PLACES

Tutor: Angela Gladwell M Art (Royal College of Art)

An 18 week Painting and Drawing course to be held over two terms – 9 weeks in the autumn term and a further 9 weeks in the spring term.
Suitable for all abilities.

It is not essential to have attended the autumn term course. You can join this course for the spring term only as individual support from the tutor will be provided.

Observational drawing in the first term will be the backbone of the visual research that you will need for the second term. Taking inspiration from all the diverse specimens and artefacts that you will have been studying, you will invent fabulous creatures and put them into fabulous environments. This will allow for a great deal of individual creativity which can be in the form of a painting, drawing or mixed media.
Please bring basic drawing materials and A2 paper to the first session. Following that, participants will be provided with a detailed course sheet that will let them know what drawing and painting materials they will need for each week.

When: There is a morning or an afternoon class.

Pictures from Rachel Ricketts' talk

Rachel brought along her sculpture 'Sleeping Horse', and took us through the processes involved in making it, including the armature creation, the clay and the casting.

Here are some pictures from the evening:

In addition, Rachel is holding an open studio weekend on Sat 30th November and Sun 1st December - anyone is welcome to come along and browse, or maybe pick up a sculpture at pre-gallery prices. There's also a drink and mince pie on offer! Her studio is at 54 Bridge Street, Kington, Herefordshire, HR3 3DJ. For more details, she can be reached at rachel.ricketts1@googlemail.com

Well, that's it! Our programme for 2013 is now over (save for Spotlight, which will keep going regardless), and we hope you all enjoyed it! We'll be back next year with more plein air painting / sketch days, exhibitions, and of course our evening meetings. We're also going to be a little more involved in the Ludlow Fringe Festival in 2014, so keep an eye out for updates!
